Students’ Perception on IT-Based Learning: A Case at Four Higher Education Institutions  In Surabaya

Education developmet has drived the methods of learning in class from teacher-centered learning (TCL) to student-centered learning (SCL).  One of the aspects driving the success of the student-centered learning is the availability and the appropriatness of the information technology system at campus such as the students’ mastery in using computer and some programs, e-learning, as well as the academic information system set specifically based on the university need. This research was conducted to get accurate data on the students’s perspective on the IT-based learning having been introduced to them so the university gets the picture on how the learning has been of successful. The population was the students who were taking the Marketing Management course in four univeristies or colleges. The data was gathered by using questionnaire to 200 respondents chosen using proportional and random sampling. The data was analyzed using a descriptive statistical analysis.
 The respondents were asked on their opinion about the use of information technology that was measured using the parameters of computer knowledge, knowledge about e-learning and academic information systems, the frequency of access to e-learning and academic information systems, and the effect of the use of e-learning to the learning process.
 The results of this study was expected to be useful for: (1) policy considerations to repair or revise the information technology services and the academic information systems, (2) the input toknow the students’ need so the management can find better solution for their better IT-based learning.
